Answers

1.Can I make a pallet where most of the load is height vertical, but I can fit another row
of Length vertical on the edge of the pallet?
You sure can. First run the Pallet Group with more than one dimension allowed vertical to the pallet. After you calculate your load, click on Tools, Pallet Maximizer to calculate your loads with columns of mixed dimensions vertical.

2."1 user are currently running CAPE PACK. Please try logging in at another time....."
Open "capead32.exe", located in your CAPE PACK application folder. Click on "Edit list of Active Connections" button. Delete from list, users that you know are no longer running CAPE PACK program.

3.What does "loads high" mean on my Strength Report?
It means that using the box you defined and the environmental factors you entered, this is the number of loads high you can safely stack this case. This is a way for you to quickly evaluate which cases meet your requirements.

4.Can CAPE PACK calculate the strength of a triple-wall case?
No, not technically. However there are two ways that you can get a good solid estimate of the strength of your triple wall case. First, you can send a sample of the board to the lab and get an edge crush value for the board. Enter that factor in as a custom single wall or double wall board and calculate using the custom values. Another way is to enter a double wall case and a single wall divider that make up the triple wall combination. The divider you should probably use is the sleeve, or divider number 8. So if your triple wall combination is 69-33-69-33-69-33-69, enter your double wall as 69-33-69-33-69 and enter your single wall divider material as 69-33-69. This way is not as accurate, but will give you an estimate.

5.I entered 3 pallets high in my Strength input. Why does my report show boards less
 than that?
You probably are printing all materials on your report. Look at the Parameters tab and make sure that you have Successful materials marked. Once you mark this, you will need to click on the Options menu and Solve to resort the report. The unsuccessful materials should drop off your list.

6.After I run my Strength Program, there is nothing in the single wall and double wall
reports. What am I doing wrong?
You probably need to turn on your boards. Go to the first Strength screen, where you enter humidity, etc. Click on Options and Show Environmental data. Click on the Single wall tab and look at the column labeled "Use?". There should be a "Y" in every row for the boards that you want to evaluate and a "N" in the other columns. After you update the single wall boards, click on the Double Wall tab and repeat the process.

7.How do I turn off some of the boards in my database? I don't necessarily want my
customers to see all of the options the program provides.

8.I want to share my Strength data with another plant. How do I do this?
The Strength board grades and environmental information is stored in two files on your computer. The files are: Program Files\CAPE204\Tutor\Strength.stf and Str.cap (or other user login id.) The strength.stf file is your default environment, or backup up data. The str.cap file is your local environment where your "daily use" data is maintained. This is the file that opens automatically when you open CAPE PACK Strength. Copy these files to a disk and mail them to the other plant, or email them the files and have them put the files in the same directories that they came from on your machine.

9.Can I run Strength of an HSC?
No. But you can run Strength for a Die Cut case, a Bliss box or an End Loader. Look at your environmental factors (Options, Show Environmental data) to see how these selections affect your Strength program outcome.

10.Is there any way to turn off some of the pallet patterns when running trucks or Truck
 Analysis?
Yes. On the Truck tab, right click on the Complex setting. This will give you a pop menu where you can turn off whichever pallet patterns you don't want to use.

11.I run inside dimensions. But the caliper listed in the pallet group is not correct for my
board. How can I fix or overwrite that figure?
You can type in whatever caliper you want to use for your material thickness. You can also update the standard list that provided with your program. To do this, click on the Tools menu in the Pallet group and select Material Thicknesses. Add, delete or change whatever you need to and click on OK. Your list will be updated.

12.I am trying to put bottles in a tray but keep getting "No Solutions Found". What am I
 doing wrong?
The most common problem encountered when running items into trays is the maximum secondary package height. This figure must allow for the tray and the objects inside the tray. Commonly, folks put just the tray wall height in here and don't allow for the bottles or boxes that stick out over the tray. Try increasing this figure, and don't forget to allow for the thickness of the tray board. In CAPE PACK 2.04, the Maximum case dimensions are found by clicking on the Case Settings button the secondary pack tab.

13.I am trying to run CAPE PACK over my network and keep getting RTE 5. What is
 causing this?
Most likely you need to run the setup program for work stations. Look in your Program Files\CAPE204 folder and find the file called Client.exe. Double-click on this file and a short setup routine will run. This should set you up to run CAPE PACK. If you are still having trouble, contact CAPE Systems Customer Support.

15.I want to put my customer's graphics on the cases of the pallet loads. How do I show
 this in CAPE PACK?
You want to use the 3D Imaging program. Run your pallet group analysis. In the Multi-Viewer, click on the Add Graphics, Create 3D Graphics. You will see a box asking you to select a package. Click on your case and then on OK. Click on the 3DI menu and New. Give your image file a name (i.e. test.3di). Then you open up your graphics from your customer. The best images to use in this program are Bitmaps (BMP), PCX files, TIF files and GIF files. Graphics that use millions of colors in their format may have distorted colors when used in the 3DI program. Click on Image and Open. Open your image file. Click on the panel of the flat blank-type case that you want the image to appear on and then on the camera button in the tool bar. Repeat this process with other graphics if needed. When you are finished adding images to your case, click on 3DI and Save. Then you can close the 3DI program and go back to the Multi-Viewer. Once in the Multi-Viewer, click on a panel of the screen that has the case. Then click on Add Graphics, Add 3D Graphics and select your image (i.e. test.3di) from the list.

18.If I know the size of my case, but I want to show the product inside, do I have to run
 the Arrange Group?
No, you can use the Pallet Group. Enter the size of your case and select your pallet and/or truck. Then click on the Fill Wizard menu and Define. Select the package type from the Pack Type list and then enter the arrangement of the product in the case. For example, 4x3x1 would be 4 products long by 3 products wide by 1 product high. This graphical information will be available for you to view/print in the Multi-Viewer graphics.

19.I stacked my case onto my pallet and now I want to fill the truck. But Truck Analysis
is grayed out on my menu. How do I run it?
First check to make sure that you have a Pallet load in your active panel. Easiest way to do this is click on the picture of the pallet load. Look again to see if Truck Analysis is still grayed out. If it is, then you probably did not define your truck during input. Click on File, Change Input Data. When you get back to input, click on the Input Settings button. Make sure that Objects onto Pallets into Trucks is marked on the right hand side of the screen. Click on OK. Pick your truck from the list on the Truck tab and make sure you enter a maximum weight, and select the pallet patterns that you want to use (simple/complex). Calculate again and you will have access to Truck Analysis.

21.How can I show a display case or false bottom under my product?
You will need to use the Slave Pallet feature for this. Enter your case information and for your pallet, enter Input Pallet Dimensions. Enter the dimensions of the display case/base. Select this pallet and enter the maximum load weight and height. Then click on Input and Select Slave Pallet Base. Choose your "real" pallet. After you calculate, you will have your load shown on the display case. Click on Tools and Fill Slave Pallet. This will load your entire pallet load on the "real" pallet for you to print.

22.Why can't I see my saved diagrams when I reopen my file?
Usually if you are having trouble opening your saved graphics, it is because you are really opening your input data. To retrieve your saved graphics, go to the Front Menu in CAPE PACK and select File, Open Viewer/Open Saved Graphics, and then either the Solution Dialog or the Standard Dialog. If you choose the Solution Dialog, the program will look at all your files and determine which ones have saved graphics. If you choose the Standard Dialog, all files will be shown. Select the file you want to open and click on OK. It will open in Multi-Viewer. If it does not, it means that you did not save the solutions/graphics for this file.

23.My printouts are coming out black. Why?
You are probably trying to print a color printout from CAPE PACK to a black and white printer. Click on File, Page Setup and check to make sure that your print type is Black and White or No Hatching. Color printing to some black and white printers will yield a completely black block of product on your pallet.

24.How do I turn off all those pallet and trucks in my list?
During data input, click on Tools, Setup Pallet Base Style Directory (or Setup Truck Base Style Directory). Turn off whatever pallets/trucks you don't want by click on them in the list. This will deactivate the pallet and the red check mark will disappear. The pallets will still be there in the program, but will not appear on your list. You can also sort the list to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

25.I want to send 2 half pallets of product on a GMA pallet. How can CAPE PACK show that?
This is another use for Slave Pallet. Select your half pallet during input as your pallet and then click on Input, Select Slave Pallet Base. Choose your GMA pallet as the slave. After calculating, use the Tools, Fill Slave Pallet feature to load your half pallets onto your GMA.

26.The Dims vertical to the secondary fields disappeared from my primary pack tab? Why?
Because you are using the Bundle Wizard. When you use the Bundle Wizard, it tells it how to pack your primaries in your secondary. So these fields are no longer needed on the Primary Pack tab.

27.How do I show my longest dimension indicator?
You can turn this feature on at input or output. At input, click on the Input Settings button and click on the "Flap Indicator" field. In Multi-Viewer Graphics, select Indicators from the Diagram View list under Format Panel (Setup Buttons, Format Panel, Diagram View drop down list).

28.Is there any way to export my graphics?
CAPE PACK gives you four different ways to export your graphics. You can export just the diagrams or the entire report.
1. Under Edit, you can Copy your Diagrams/Reports to the Windows Clipboard and paste them into whatever application you want.
2.Under File, Print Preview, you are given an export button to use to export your report to a graphics file. You have 7 choices for graphics types. If you use this feature, the Page Setup setting applies to your exported report.
3. Under the Review feature, you can export individual pieces of your analysis (i.e., pallet load, case, primary, truck) to individual files. This can be exported as a report or as a diagram. You can use the Export menu to customize your export (Settings), and then export either your diagrams or report to 1 of seven different graphic formats.
4. You can use the Export menu to export your graphics in a variety of different ways.

34.Can I expand overhang in the Layer Editor?
Yes you can. Click on Options, Reset Overhang. You will be prompted for an amount of allowable overhang in both the length and width. When you exit the program, the new product dimensions will update to the Multi-Viewer Graphics. If you have not used the total amount of overhang requested, it will not show up on your reports.

35.I have a column pattern and I want to alternate the layers of the load by turning half
of the layers 90 degrees. How do I do this?
You will need to use the Layer Editor. Click on Edit, Layer Editor. When the Editor options, click on the New button near the center of the screen. From this dialog box, click on P001 and then Create P003 (or whatever the next layer number is). Then click on Ok. The program will add a layer to your load. You will notice that all of the pattern numbers are the same (usually P001) except for the one you created (we'll call it P003). Click on layer P003 to highlight it. Click on the Edit field. Working with the top view of the layer on the right side of the screen, block the entire layer. To do this, hold down the shift key and click/drag from the upper right corner of the layer to the lower left corner. A dotted line will draw as you drag. Release the mouse and keyboard buttons and an "X" will be drawn over the entire layer. Hit the right cursor button one time to turn the entire layer 90 degrees. Let's assume that your load is 8 layers high. With the P003 layer you added, you will see nine layers in your list. Click back on the View field on the left hand side of the screen. Click on layer 1=P001 and then on the Delete button on your screen. Do this 3 more times so that you have a total of 5 layers, 4 P001s and 1 P003. Click on the P003 layer and then click on the Copy button 3 times. You will now have 4 of each layer. Use the Up and Down buttons to reposition the 8 layers so that they are alternated.

36.My bags don't look quite right when I load them.
When you use a bag created using the Make a New Shape feature, you should enter the dimensions as though the bag is standing up - as this is how the bag was created. If you need the bags to lie down on the pallet or in the box, make the Width rather than the Height vertical. This will give your bags a more realistic look.

37.Is there a way to load bundles of paper or flat glued boxes onto a pallet?
Yes, the new KDF Group is the perfect tool for this type of analysis. Enter your erected box or your flat blank size and then apply a formula from the list. Enter your range of bundle counts and calculate. You can also change the formulas to better suit your specific box type or style.
38.Is there a quicker way to setup my problem parameters without using the menus?
Yes, you can use the many right-click options available in the program. There are right-clicks available for data entry, Multi-Viewer Graphics and even the Strength program. You can change the look of your diagrams without using the Setup Buttons option, and even print using right clicks.
39.Is there a way to use my CAPE PACK results in a web environment?
Yes, the Web Page Publisher is the perfect tool for deploying your analyses to the internet. You simply create a catalog with WPP and add all the analyses that you want to include.
